Preschool
First Baptist School’s preschool (K2-K3), located in downtown Charleston, boasts a premier learning experience that is facilitated by a highly certified faculty!
In an effort to offer one of the best and safest learning environments in Charleston, our Christian preschool is registered and approved by the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS). Every staff member is SLED background checked CPR certified, AED certified, and completes 15 or more hours of continuing education every calendar year. Furthermore, our classroom size remains low, so the student to teacher ratio complies with DSS mandates. In a further effort to ensure your student's safety and wellbeing, our faculty tracks and charts student movement throughout the day.
Within the classroom, our vertically aligned curriculum ensures that each student receives a top-tier education. As students enter the preschool program, the faculty introduces letters, numbers, and colors to students, as well as the basic principles of art, music, dance, and Spanish. Each year of instruction seamlessly builds upon the previous years, and students master essential fundamentals before new skills and knowledge are introduced.

Kindergarten
First Baptist School’s kindergarten program (K4-K5), located in downtown Charleston, provides a preparatory Christian education with an emphasis on academic rigor.
In order to ensure that each student is performing at or above grade level, the curriculum at First Baptist School is aligned to state standards and is also accelerated, regularly requiring students to perform above grade level. As students advance through the core curriculums in English, math, science, and history, our lower school teachers stress Christian education. On any day in the classroom, students might learn about the seasons and God’s perfect timing or create self portraits while studying Ephesians 2:10. In short, at First Baptist School, we center our curriculum around Biblical truths, incorporating Scripture and Christian worldview into each core subject area.
Beyond core subjects, lower school students also take classes in music, Bible, Spanish, physical education, library, and art. Students can choose to participate in choir or band, supplemental art and science classes, drama, and various sports, as well. Each supplemental class is also centered around Christian worldview, providing a framework for spiritual growth through a variety of subjects.
Above all, the lower school faculty strives to provide each student with a firm foundation in core subjects while integrating the Christian faith into every subject area.
