October Head of School Update & Hurricane Watch Newsletter

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

Greetings, First Baptist Community!

There is something truly magical about this time of year, isn't there? The changing seasons remind us that life is constantly evolving, and just as the trees shed their leaves, we, too, have the opportunity to grow and transform. It's a season of change, a season of transition, and a season of gratitude.

"To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven." - Ecclesiastes 3:1

One of the things that make this season so special here at First Baptist School is the boundless enthusiasm that our students and teachers bring to school each day. Our classrooms are filled with curiosity, creativity, and a deep thirst for knowledge. It's heartwarming to see the smiles on our students' faces as they engage in their lessons, explore new concepts, and build lasting friendships.

Our dedicated teachers are the heart and soul of our school. They bring their passion for education to life in every lesson, fostering an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. It's their commitment to nurturing the whole child that sets First Baptist School apart, and I'm incredibly grateful for their tireless dedication.

September has been a busy month and the October itinerary is proving to be just as exciting. Our fine arts classes and programs are hitting their stride at this point in the year, working toward larger performances in the winter and spring, but also giving students smaller performance opportunities to begin building confidence. Our 7th-12th grade dance students will be performing at the varsity football game halftime on Friday, Oct 6th and we look forward to hearing our high school choir students perform the National Anthem at an athletic event soon as well. Student artwork is beginning to fill the hallways and our high school art students are finalizing their design plan for the Holiday Festival of Lights Giant Greeting Card contest.

First Baptist Athletics is approaching the final stretches in many of our Fall sports. We congratulate Coach Erin Jackson and the Cross Country team as they continue to have one of the best seasons in school history. We also want to congratulate James Tyler who recently won the Cobra 5K Invitational, while setting a new school record of 16.44 - way to go, James! The Varsity volleyball team continues to play well and looks to have one of their strongest seasons in years! We would like to congratulate the Hurricane football team on their win over Hilton Head Prep which also gave Coach Jamaal Birch his first victory as a head coach. Our varsity swim team continues to make state cuts across the board and the cheer team is working hard and preparing for their first competitions in October. Our JV Girls' tennis team also just wrapped up a very competitive second season in a row under Coach Brook Griffin.

As we embrace this season of change, I want to encourage all of our students and families to take a moment to reflect on the things we are thankful for. Let's celebrate the beauty of fall, the joy of learning, and the love and support of our school community. Together, we can continue to grow and flourish in the warmth of the FBS family.

In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you, our wonderful students, parents, and staff, for making First Baptist School a place of inspiration, growth, and endless possibilities. Together, we can make this fall season one to remember.

We invite you to stay up-to-date with current events by following First Baptist School’s social media and our school webpage. #WeAreFB

Be Blessed!
