October Head of School Update & Hurricane Watch Newsletter

Greetings, First Baptist Community!

We are so excited about the progress we have made in getting the 2022/2023 school year off the ground. We have so many great things happening on both of our campuses as we all settle into our routines and really begin the hard work of the school year.

We had a great turnout for “See You at the Pole” on September 28 when our FBS students joined students across our country to lift up in prayer our friends, families, teachers, school, and nation. While this specific day is dedicated to prayer across the country, we invite each of you to daily unite with us in prayer for our families, teachers, our school, and our nation, as we seek to honor and serve God in everything we do.

We are grateful for your tremendous support in the Charleston Wrap fundraiser. We were able to collectively raise $16,196.90, which will be used to fund our new program, The Social Institute. The Social Institute has been a huge success so far. The goal of this program is to provide our instructional resources which are aimed at promoting positive digital citizenship for our students and to help parents navigate the ever-evolving challenges in the era of social media. The Charleston Wrap fundraiser will also be used to fund advances in technology for our younger grades, as well.

We are excited to be hosting our FBS Friends and Family Oyster Roast on October 23rd at The Island House. Join us for a time of fun, fellowship, and great local oysters. Click here to register. We look forward to seeing you there!

Last year we began hosting a series of New Parent Coffees where our new parents are invited in small groups to have coffee with the FBS administrators, admissions, and enrollment personnel, as well as representatives of the PTO. The goal of our time together is to get to know each other and find ways in which we can support our new families in getting plugged in to life at FBS. New families, you will be receiving information regarding these sessions in the coming weeks.

Learning is in full swing at both of our campuses. I have enjoyed visiting classrooms and hard work of our teachers and students Downtown. We were so excited to return to our cherished Family Fridays, where families join us on campus for lunch for grades. In addition to Family Friday events, we are also pleased to announce resuming our annual Grandparents Day festivities for K2-4th Grades on October 24th. We look forward to seeing more great things from our Downtown Campus as the school year progresses.

Like our Downtown Campus, our James Island Campus has tons of activity. Our students are actively engaged in their coursework as our semester is now well underway. We are settling into the A, B, C Day schedule nicely. Due to Hurricane Ian, our Homecoming activities had to take a detour. Our new Homecoming game date is set for October 28th, and we will play Porter-Gaud. On that same day, we will host our 5th-12th grades on James Island for a Homecoming Pep Rally.

We will also recognize our football and cheer seniors on October 28th, additionally, we will hold Homecoming Court during half-time. Our students are also excited that we will be hosting a Homecoming Dance on October 29th.

We invite you to stay up to date with current events by following First Baptist School’s social media and our school webpage. #WeAreFB

Be Blessed,

Dr. Justin Mitchell, Head of School
