Meet the (New) Teachers! Downtown Campus

We're excited to welcome quite a few new faces to First Baptist this year! See who will be joining us this year and learn a little bit more about them below! First up are the teachers who will be on our Downtown Campus!

Heidi Doyle

Digital Literacy - Downtown Campus

I have been teaching for 21 years. I have my Master of Education from the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y. I am married to Tommy and we have two boys - Thomas (16) and George (12) George will be joining me at First Baptist. My husband's family business is one of the carriage companies downtown, so we live on a farm with 30+ horses.

I love to do anything outdoors - hiking, fishing, spending time at the beach, playing word games, reading, and rooting for the Celtics basketball team

I am excited to join the team because I have heard so many great things about the culture and students at First Baptist School!

Fun Fact: When I was young, I worked on a NOAA research vessel that determined the fishing guidelines for saltwater fishing in New Jersey.

Sally Rhodes

K3-4 Bible - Downtown Campus

I am Sally Rhodes, and I am so excited to teach Bible K3-4th grades, and computer 3rd-5th!

My husband, William and I, live on Johns Island with our two kids, Liza Ann (8) and Tillman (4). We love to be outdoors either fishing, surfing, or just relaxing at the beach! I enjoy fitness and staying active, but dark chocolate is my weakness!

I have been teaching for 14 years. I spent the last seven years in a second grade classroom at Charleston Collegiate, and the other seven years at Oakland Elementary in a first grade classroom.

I am looking forward to joining the First Baptist family, as the community has already been so welcoming!

Crystal Hawkins

K2-4 Spanish - Downtown Campus

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from North Greenville University. Since 2004, I have had the opportunity to teach in the public school system, in the private school system, and as a home school educator. This varied experience helps me think outside the box and connect with each student’s learning style.

My passion for teaching comes from my own childhood experience. I had a teacher who truly made an impact on my life when life was at its most unstable. I learned at a young age that one teacher can truly make a difference.

My passion for Spanish stems from my love of travel and enjoyment of friends from other cultures.

My family includes my husband Matthew and our sons Liam (age 15), Titus (age 13), and Uriah (age 11). I also have a very weird dog named Inigo Montoya.

My hobbies include outdoor family adventures, listening to music, riding my bike, and writing. I hope to be a published author someday.

Katherine Ladd

Learning Specialist - Downtown Campus

I have taught for 15 years. God's plan brought me full circle as I find my new home at First Baptist as the Academic Support Specialist. New and old friends, teachers, parents and students proudly express their genuine love and happiness at First Baptist. Honestly, they talk about their happiness here so much that I want to be a part of this family too! They found their home away from home, and I look forward to doing the same. I earned my Degree in Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences: Child and Family Development at the University of Georgia. Other certifications include: Georgia Professional Standards Commission T-4, Early Childhood Education (P-5), Early Childhood Mathematics Endorsement Computer Competency. I also attended the South Carolina International Reading Association Conference for 4 years. Most recently, I took the Comprehensive Virtual IMSE Orton Gillingham Training.

Using my Orton Gillingham experience to help children gain confidence in reading is my greatest goal at First Baptist. It is what motivates me daily! I truly look forward to working with the teachers and families at First Baptist.

My husband, 2 sons, daughter and new rescue puppy love life on James Island. We love to bike, surf, camp, travel, & explore.

Fun Fact: I traveled solo around the world, and taught 3rd grade in Australia, where I went sky diving and bungee-jumping.

Ashley Schaible

4th Grade - Downtown Campus

Hi First Baptist Families! My name is Ashley Schaible, and I’m so excited to be teaching 4th grade ELA and History this year.

I have my Masters Degree in Elementary Education with 5 years of prior teaching experience from when I lived in New York.

I have two children, Catalina who is 9 years old and Jakob who is 4 years old.

Some of my favorite activities are reading, playing at the beach with my kids and bike rides with my family. I am the oldest sister to 4 siblings. Two of my sisters live here in Charleston with their families, one brother lives in New York and the other brother is currently serving in the Navy in Guam.

My main goal as a teacher is to help my students develop a deep love for learning where they leave school everyday feeling happy and confident about their school achievements. I feel so blessed to be a part of the First Baptist family and I look forward to creating wonderful memories with my students.

Jennifer Yohe

K5 Aide - Downtown Campus

I was born and raised here in Charleston, and my husband Eric and I live in Ravenel with our two children, Shelby and Wesley, and our 13 pets (2 dogs, 1 cat, and 10 chickens). We lovingly refer to our house as the funny farm!

My husband Eric is an Alumni of FBS class of 1999, and our children have attended since 2020. Shelby is entering 7th grade this year, and Wesley is going into 5th. We absolutely love First Baptist School!

I’ve spent most of my professional career working in the real estate industry, but something most people don’t know about me is that I ran for my local town council in 2017. I’ve also served over 5 years on the board of directors for a local public charter school. Community service is important to me, and I look forward to serving the amazing teachers and staff at FBS in my new role this year.

Stay tuned to meet the new teachers on our James Island campus!
