May Head of School Update & Hurricane Watch Newsletter

Greetings, First Baptist Community!

As the school year winds down, we have a number of exciting events to look forward to in the month of May. It's been an amazing year, and we are proud of all our students for their hard work and dedication. Here are some important dates to keep in mind: May 19th will mark the last day of classes for the school year. On the same day, we will also be celebrating the Kindergarten Graduation ceremony. It will be a heartwarming event as we recognize our youngest students and wish them all the best as they continue their academic endeavors at First Baptist School. Moving on, we have the Senior Baccalaureate Service on May 21st. This service is a great opportunity for our graduating students and their families to reflect on the past and look forward to the future as they transition into the next chapter of their lives. On May 24th, we will be celebrating the 8th Grade Graduation ceremony. Our 8th graders have worked hard this year, and this ceremony will be a great way to recognize their achievements and send them off to high school. Finally, we have the High School Graduation ceremony on May 26th. This year's graduation ceremony will be held in the First Baptist Church sanctuary Downtown. It's a momentous occasion for our graduating seniors as they prepare to embark on new adventures and pursue their dreams. We hope that all our students and families will be able to attend these events and share in the excitement of the end of the school year.

April and May wrap up the end of the creative process in our Fine Arts programs. End-of-year shows & concerts celebrating the growth of our students have filled our spring calendars. In the coming weeks, students will be completing the artistic process by connecting and responding to their performances and finished products through self-reflection and evaluation. All of our Fine Arts programs meet and exceed the National Core Arts Standards of creating, presenting, responding, and connecting. We are proud of the student work and growth that was cultivated through the artistic process this year.

Our Spring sports teams have performed well all season and the soccer programs have led the way with their success on and off the field. For the first time in a very long time, our JV Girls and JV Boys soccer teams are both region champions! We are so excited about the future of FBS soccer and we are thankful for our coaches who have led the way! The varsity soccer teams will compete in the state playoffs soon as both are surging with momentum at the right time of the year. The varsity baseball team will head back to the playoffs after a convincing series win over Porter-Gaud! Our young golf team has worked hard all year and continues to make strides on the course. The track and field team has turned in strong performances so far this season on the track and in many of the field events. Many of our students keep breaking personal records as the season progresses and we are excited to watch them compete for a team and individual state championships at the state track meet in Charleston on May 6th.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our students, families, each other, and you, our First Baptist community. We invite you to stay up-to-date with current events by following First Baptist School’s social media and our school webpage. #WeAreFB

Be Blessed!

Dr. Justin Mitchell, Head of School
