June Head of School Update

Greetings,


Over a week ago we were blessed to celebrate the Class of 2020 with an outdoor commencement ceremony at our James Island Campus and officially close out the 2019-20 school year. This year took many unexpected turns, but we are thankful for how well everyone pivoted to distance learning so quickly and the grace and patience you showed our school staff as we made continual adjustments. 


So, where does that leave us for the 2020-21 school year? As we shared weeks ago, we plan to begin school on time, with five day weeks on August 17th. Like everyone, we will be adjusting to a new normal, but what can you expect as an FBS family? You should anticipate some changes to drop-off/pick-up procedures, student transition/placement changes during the school day, as well as many other adjustments to our daily logistical planning. Please reference this sheet with some preliminary details: Return to School Health and Safety Considerations. Our goal is to continue to provide top-quality Christ-centered education, serve our school families, and work diligently to protect the safety and health of our students, families, and staff. As we get closer to the start of school, we will be sharing specific guidelines that will be in place at both of our campus locations. Our Administration and Health & Wellness Staff are actively monitoring SCDEC, CDC, and AccelerateSC for guidelines and recommendations for schools. 


Please read below for some important information on back to school dates and information:


Thursday, August 13th

  • 9:00 am- 11:00 am New Family Orientation for Grades K2-8 at our Downtown Campus. 


Friday, August 14th

  • 9:00 am- 11:00 am Returning Family/Student Drop-In for Grades K3-2 at our Downtown Campus. 

  • 11:30 am- 1:30 pm Returning Family/Student Drop-In for Grades 3-8 at our Downtown Campus. 

  • 10:00 am- 12:00 pm New Family/Student Orientation for Grades 9-12 at our James Island Campus. 


**You will be receiving specific instructions and details on these events from your respective campus administrators soon.


Monday, August 17th

  • 1/2 of School for Grades K2-12. (11:45- downtown dismissal and 12:15 dismissal for James Island)


Summer Reading & Math- Information for lower school can be found here, high school reading here, and high school math here. If you have any questions, please contact your campus administrator. 


Shared Devices for Students- We often have many students using different Chromebooks throughout the day. The constant sharing of devices during a school day is not feasible moving forward. Carefully read this document on how we will approach school devices for the upcoming school year. 


Through all of this, we will continue to work daily to glorify God in all that we do. We look forward to this next school year, serving all of you the best we can, and providing a quality Christian education. We are praying for all of you, and please let us know if there is anything you need.
