First Baptist School of Charleston Names Dr. Justin Mitchell as Head of School

First Baptist School of Charleston is excited to announce Dr. Justin Mitchell as the new Head of School. Dr. Mitchell came into this school year facing many challenging situations and he has handled each one with professionalism and a Christian heart. He has served the school well as Academic Dean; and then, as our Interim Head of School, he has put forth many initiatives to greatly further the mission of the school. During this time, he has improved communications across our campuses, worked toward re-accreditation, furthered faculty professional development, and begun work on curriculum alignment and better integration of Christian World View into the classroom. We all have come to know him and his heart for the school; and we have witnessed his expertise, passion, and work ethic.

Dr. Mitchell came to First Baptist School from Charleston Southern University, where he served as an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Programs within the College of Education for the past five years. He has spent over a decade in public education serving in both elementary and middle schools. Dr. Mitchell holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Elementary Education, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and he is a Nationally Board Certified Teacher as a Middle Childhood Generalist. In addition to degrees and National Board Certification, Dr. Mitchell is also a licensed Curriculum and Instructional Specialist (K-12) and School Superintendent. He and his family are active members of Citadel Square Baptist Church in Charleston.

We look forward to the future of First Baptist School under Dr. Mitchell’s leadership. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Mitchell!
