December Head of School Update & Hurricane Watch Newsletter

Greetings, First Baptist Community!

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” Isaiah 9:6. This time of year is often filled with wonder and excitement, yet at the same time, a quiet reverence as we celebrate the true reason for the season, the birth of Jesus.

As we herald the Christmas season, we celebrate our Downtown Campus collecting 169 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. These packages will be shipped to children all over the world, bringing Christmas gifts and the Good News of The Gospel!

We have so many exciting things happening within our Fine Arts Department. We were very proud of our elementary theatre students, who presented a fun and whimsical production of “Suessical” just before Thanksgiving Break. Looking ahead, our middle and high school students are preparing for their spring semester production of “Heroes & Villains.” Additionally, we have embarked on a cooperative project across both campuses. One of our senior dancers, Hailey Switzer, is working with our 4th grade dance students for a featurette to be filmed as part of our Daffodil Garden dedication chapel service in the spring. We love the many ways that the arts present our students with opportunities to work together across grade levels and campuses. As we move into the Christmas Season, our fine arts students’ talents are shining in our community. Our high school art students are representing FBS well through a collaborative, “Giant Greeting Card” project which is currently on display at the James Island County Park Holiday Festival of Lights through the Christmas season. We invite you to join our students for a beautiful service of Lessons and Carols this Sunday, December 4th at 6:30 pm in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary. You don’t want to miss this FBS time-honored tradition to get you in the Christmas spirit. Additionally, our Christmas band performance will be December 8th at 7:00 pm in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary. We invite you and your family to attend these hallmark FBS traditions.

I would like to extend an exuberant congratulations to all of our fall sports teams on a great fall season! Our cheerleaders will conclude their fall season with a performance this Saturday during the pre-game festivities at the ACC Football Championship in Charlotte. We are transitioning into basketball season with ten basketball teams between 4th-12th grade! Our varsity boys are off to a strong start with a 3-0 record, including a tournament championship at the Holiday Hoop Feast tournament in Columbia. The JV teams will compete at home next Monday and all four teams will be playing Dec. 9 for our first four-game night at home against PCA. We hope you can join us for the excitement that begins at 4:00 pm on Dec. 9th! Our varsity girls will be a host for the Carolina Invitational, one of the largest high school girls' tournaments in the country, as we will host teams from all over the East Coast Dec. 28-30

As a reminder, Christmas Break begins on December 19th and school resumes on January 4th. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our students, families, each other, and you, our First Baptist community. We hope that each of you and your families have a blessed Christmas season!

Be Blessed!
